Abstract

Aim of this project is to create a multi-functional system for organisational intranets and extranets. More specifically this system allows for local and remote access of organisational members (such as employees) to information stored in a central server or in a set of such.

The system is not a simple repository of data files such as documents, images and sounds but also features other ways of information exchange, namely messages, discussion forums and personal or team activity planning calendars.

Instead of using proprietary software, all the services provided by this system, have been made available through an Internet browser. This makes the application almost platform independent. The server side of the system has been developed using technologies that are available on multiple platforms so as to avoid constraining the user to purchasing a certain hardware/operating system platform.
