"Departmental Website And Online Database For The Sheffield Centre of Sports Medicine"

Abstract

The Sheffield Centre of Sports Medicine created a proposal within which a departmental area was developed and integrated into their current website for educational purposes. Initially being created for The University of Sheffield students, this software development aimed to utilise an online database to assist in meeting the project's requirements. With the necessity for confidentiality in the medical profession, an adequate amount of security had to be placed on the educational area of the website. Once the system was completed, students could then obtain the relevant teaching material related to the department via the World Wide Web.

The project was created using the Java programming language and JavaServer Page technology. The database facility was produced using MySQL which was interrogated via the JavaServer Pages. Results were displayed on web pages within The Sheffield Centre of Sports Medicine's website.

This project was the foundation for a larger development directly related to the education of sports medicine at The University of Sheffield. The functionality of the system will have to be expanded to incorporate the company's long-term objectives of providing a suitable service to distance learning students..
