"Wavelets for Sound Analysis and Re-synthesis"

Supervised by G.Brown

Abstract

This paper firstly introduces the main branch of mathematics that lead to the discovery of Wavelets and their transforms, Fourier Analysis. The paper gives a detailed account of the development of different Fourier transforms and describes the motivation for a need for a different transform due to the multiresolution problem. The theory of Wavelets is then introduced as a solution to this problem together with a detailed account of the Continuous and Discrete Wavelet Transforms.

The paper also documents the development, testing and evaluation of two Computer Assisted Learning Tools that students could use to learn about wavelet theory.
