"Simulation of Boids "The Flocking Paradigm""

Supervised by Professor MP Cooke

Abstract

The study of the flocking of birds has interested scientists for many years. It has now become such an art form that its properties and behaviours are being used by the defence industry. Therefore further work is constantly undergoing in this area. This project aims to produce a simulation tool of the flocking paradigm building on the groundwork laid out by Craig Reynolds and his boid theory. Research into many of the models already available has aided this. Work on the tool covers the simulation of the different behavioural characteristics of birds as a group and also environmental variables that affect them. X-machines will be used as diagrammatic representation and as the modelling method if this multi-agent system.
