"MIDI Music Crawler"
Supervised by Professor GJ Brown
Abstract
What should we do as the following things happened? People want to search songs on line while they don’t remember the song titles, or even have no idea about the lyrics. It may be a song that overheard in a store when shopping or an old song that haven’t heard for years. All that they remember is just a piece of melody. What’s more, they do want to download it to their own computers for enjoying whenever they want…Therefore, here comes out a question: can people search for songs from a couple of notes?
Proposal of this project is to realize this function from building a comprehensive system which finally could help people act as follows: firstly, just input several notes of the melody that we know by a virtual synthesizer keyboard, then these notes will be matched by this system automatically with MIDI files through Internet (there are some MIDI file databases for free using), and we get the song title in the end.
I name the software fulfills the above described function as “MIDI Music Crawler”, which is a Java language system jointly run by web crawling technology and music information retrieval technology.
