Mobile App for an Interactive Pedestrian Campus Tour

Supervised by R.Gaizauskas

Abstract

The usage of mobile devices, including iPhones and Android phones, has increased rapidly worldwide. Information is gathered via applications from mobiles for users’ navigation requirements. Meanwhile, location-awareness and speech-based navigation systems make applications more interactive and seemingly intelligent.

This report concerns one of three parts of the Interactive Pedestrian Campus Tour App. The main aim of this project is to design an Question Answering(QA) system on the server-side, and to build Knowledge Bases(KBs), which provide relevant data for speech-based and interactive applications on mobile phones for pedestrians on The University of Sheffield campus.

The progress of information extraction is the   finding,   searching and extraction of related information concerning The University of Sheffield campus through an automatic system. All this data forms the KBs, which can satisfy the requirements of pedestrians on campus. In addition, one client-side feature is a function which can search and return relevant information to users.
