SpaceKit - A Rocket Simulation Kit

Supervised by A.Simons

Abstract

Running a simulation before a rocket launch is essential to prevent failure of the actual launch. SpaceKit is designed to model and simulate various rocket launches within the environment of the Earth. This dissertation will attempt to explain the fundamentals of rocket flight and introduces the simulation software that has been built. The system will allow a user to construct a rocket, plan its trajectory and simulate its launch in to orbit. I will explain the some of the mathematics behind what makes a rocket ‘go’ and how changes in environment can affect it. The aim is for the simulation to be as close to reality as possible but in some cases it isn’t possible to be incredibly accurate so I will talk through some assumptions and approximations I have made.
