Mobile App for an Interactive Pedestrian Campus tour

Supervised by R.Gaizauskas

Abstract

Increased use of mobile devices such as iPhone and Android phones creates new possibilities for navigation systems. Information can be now supplied to the user using an interactive interface easier than ever. Currently there is a lot of research involved in using speech-driven dialogue systems for navigation tasks. The aim of this project is to create an android application that acts as an interactive navigation system for the campus of the University of Sheffield. The system will navigate the user through the use of GPS (to find the user's location) and through human-like dialogue (to find out what the user wants to do, but also to guide them). Knowledge Bases & Question Answering of the University's buildings and information about them will also be created and used. Information of other points of interest around the campus will be gathered as well. This report will discuss information gathered and the implementation regarding the dialogue component of the system. This project focuses on developing a Dialogue System that is to be used along with the other two components (i.e. Mobile Application and Knowledge Bases & Question Answering).
