Android application for wirelessly monitoring ultrasonic scanner data over the GSM network

Supervised by P.McMinn

Abstract

Tribosonics Ltd are a company from Sheffield who specialise in producing ultrasonic scanning equipment. Prior projects have connected a GSM module to an ultrasonic scanner allowing it to communicate wirelessly with an IOS device, which will now be expanded on.

The main aim of this project is to design and develop an Android application for Tribosonics Ltd to wirelessly receive A-Scan data from a GSM module and display it as a graph. The app is to provide a good intuitive user interface to allow the user to modify the graph and take accurate measurements. The app will also be able to send commands to the GSM module to change the data being received. Secondly, if time permits, the project will then look at expanding the app, to add further function features to add to the user's experience.
