An autonomous robot inspecting and mapping a building

Supervised by F.Ciravegna

Abstract

Autonomous robots are becoming increasingly more prevalent, complex, efficient and effective at performing repetitive, highly accurate and otherwise dangerous tasks. Their use in many different fields such as manufacturing, health, military and the commercial sector has increased drastically as advances are continuing to be made. This makes an autonomous robot ideal for performing the tasks at hand, namely that of inspecting and mapping a building/room.

Within this research project and report, I hope to produce such a robot. One which will be able to inspect and accurately map a building/room of known structure and unknown structure. This will involve 3 different areas of research and development: The robot, the inspection of a room and finally the mapping process.
