Shaping Particle Systems using the Leap Motion

Supervised by S.Maddock

Abstract

Particle Systems are a way to model dynamic objects, such as explosions or smoke. The first paper was by Reeves in 1983 and they have been prevalent in gaming and movie  effects since.

Currently in order to use them, the designer has to manually change and oversee the parameters of the system to produce effects. This can be a little overwhelming since there are many parameters to control.

This report sets out two alternative ways to control a particle system using a Leap Motion controller, using gestures or spatial optimisation.
