Simulating the Deposition of Pigment Upon Guillemot Eggs

Supervised by S.Maddock

Abstract

The common guillemot is a black and white sea bird of the family Auk. Guillemots lay pyriform  eggs with distinctive markings covering the shell, such that no two eggs look completely alike. This project aims to create a 3D computer graphics simulation roughly modelling  the conditions the egg is under during it's formation, with the aim of being able to generate different patterns of egg. A program has been created allowing users to control parameters to provide some insight into the mechanisms occurring in the uteri of the guillemot to create these patterns.
