Sentiment Detection and Tracking in Social Media Streams

Abstract

This project will investigate if the stock market’s movement is affected by the sentiments shared by people on Twitter. With the huge growth in social media it is now possible to use the data available online to extract sentiments and can be applied in different domains for various purposes. Analysing sentiments in financial domain to predict future movement is just one of the many applications.

This research project will be collecting Twitter data for FTSE 100 companies and will be using different methods and technique to analyse sentiment. These sentiments will be endeavour to predict the FTSE 100 index’s future movement.
