AMRC: GUI Design for Interactive Manufacturing Applications

Supervised by M.Stannett

Abstract

Due to the mobility and increasing efficiency of touch screen smartphones, tablet computers and wearable technologies, the use of these devices, as a medium for Manufacturing based applications, has grown in popularity. However, in most cases, the Manufacturing based applications, found on these interactive devices, are only the result of a retrofitted version of a desktop computer (or laptop) application. Thus, in most of these Manufacturing based applications, there has been a lack of consideration of the possibilities these interactive devices provide to developers.

The aim of this project is to research on different types of interactive and sophisticated hardware, in order to find a suitable device to work on and thus, implement a GUI design for an application that is not only usable in the field of Manufacturing but also applies the different capabilities that the device offers to developers and users. The application that will be implemented in this project is an image-categorisation application and the device used is the Google Glass.
