A Novel Controller For Making 8-bit Music

Supervised by G.Brown

Abstract

Since the beginning of entertainment systems in the 1970’s, the music associated with these futuristic new machines has played an integral part in the development of the gaming culture that we are experiencing today. Video Game music has come a long way, from the simple „bleeps“ and „bloops“ from the early Pac-Man games to the extremely conceptual soundtracks which play an ever-growing part in creating game atmospheres. Developments in the field of image, video and gesture recognition has had a dramatic effect on the accessibility and availability of motion sensors. It has become far simpler to attain the possession of an accurate and reliable motion sensor, and as such, creating gesture-based applications has never been more feasible. This project aims to capture the feeling of 8-bit nostalgia, and in combining it with novel methods of human computer interaction, looks to give it a modern and innovative twist.
