Augmented Reality Tagging of Buildings

Supervised by R.Taylor

Abstract

Whilst using any facility in current busy environments, it is easy to overlook the vast organisation that goes into maintaining the continual functionality of the space. Facilities Management (FM) is the sector responsible for the organisation of all the facilities that are contained within a specific environment. The department includes those managers who are responsible for the whole building or space, as well as the maintenance teams needed to perform the necessary tasks to ensure the facility remains in working order.

Augmented Reality (AR) has advanced greatly in recent years which has led many sectors to implement AR systems into the workplace. The implementation of AR into industry could be (or is) considered the most successful pairing of physical work and technology.

The ability to display information onto objects in an intuitive and easily editable way vastly improves the efficieny of FM workers. Having the information readily available avoids issues arising from loss of communication and inability to identify specific items. This report aims to explain the research, design and development of an AR application which allows the user to view, place, edit and remove AR tags.
