Abstract
The asthma is a lifelong burden. Disease characterisez as highly controllable, but significantly undertreated. Hundreds of thousands lose the battle with this burden each year, and many of them never benefit from a proper disease-related education. Technology is continuously evolving to support patients in enhancing day-to-day management of their conditions; and the practitioners to perform effective analysis and provide prompt medical support. Open-source medical frameworks such as CareKit and ResearchKit play crucial role in building the next-generation medical tools, accessible to anyone owning a mobile device. The aim of this dissertation project was to develop an asthma medical tool with CareKit, a framework allowing developers to build medical tools, which integrate the patients to actively participate in their condition management. The tool created was designed to be a universal medical instrument customizable to suit patients' needs so that it empowers practitioners to provide unique patient-experience and approach to health management. This is the step following the introduction of medical tools-building frameworks - to actually make these frameworks adaptable for all the different possible needs and use cases.
