Off-grid air quality monitor

Supervised by H.Cunningham

Abstract

Air pollution is an increasingly big problem in the UK and it has been suggested that one of the ways to tackle it, is to find new ways of monitoring air quality.

The motivation for this project is to create a device which allows members of the public to collect their own data on their surrounding air quality. The device aims to be accurate and accessible to all users, whilst also making use of the current advancements in the area of the Internet of Things, whereby data is able to pass freely between devices. The main goal for the device is to be off-grid in terms of power and internet connectivity.

This report will outline the process of creating the device, and also look at the challenges faced throughout, which resulted in the requirements not quite being met.
