This is an archive of the information the Department
keeps permanently. Some of this material may also be
stored on paper or electronically but this should be a
comprehensive record of everything we intend to keep and
it will allow us to comply with requests under the Data
Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act
relatively easily and reliably. Thus it is an
archive in the OED sense "collection of documents or
records; place where they are kept". It is not
an archive as the word is sometimes used in Computer
Science.
Some elements in these archives are only available to
staff. It was decided in 2004-5
that most restricted minutes would be made public after
four years. This excludes examination board
minutes which have to be kept confidential permanently for
Data Protection reasons.
