GATE

Some of the publicly available software that I have either written or contributed to.

GATE Components [home page]

I've written several components for the GATE language processing resource. Most of these are simple utility tools, but there is also a wrapper for MMTx, a tool for mapping arbitrary text to concepts in the UMLS Metathesaurus, a medical terminology resource.

OWL API [home page]

org.semanticweb.owl.model, the first API for OWL. OWL is the Web Ontology Langauge being developed by the W3C. I contributed to the initial design and codebase of this API, when it was originally written for the WonderWeb project. The API is now hosted at SourceForge.

OpenKnoME [home page]

OpenKnoME is an ontology engineering environment and knowledge management tool. Although it is domain independent, it is used primarily in medical terminology and ontology management. It has been the main tool in Galen and associated projects for the last 10 years. Maintaining and contributing to OpenKnoME was a major part of my job for three years.

CompET [home page]

CompET is a prototype tool for entering clinical data through the generation of compositional data entry forms. It was developed for the Telenurse ID-ENTITY project. CompET is a graphical tool that allows users to construct complex expressions of Nursing Diagnosis and Nursing Intervention from smaller building blocks. CompET addresses usability issues associated with pick lists; data entry forms contain only relevant building blocks, which are combined and automatically classified using a Description Logic reasoner. CompET is a demonstrator. As such it is not intended for real use in clinical settings.
